How can the Rotary Club of Fernley help its community?

Though still in its infancy, our club has  already served its community:

  • Our members have assisted many Fernley students by helping fund their participation in scholastic events.

  • After the devastating flood on January 5, 2008, with the help of a grant from State Farm that was obtained by our own Ray Dodd, and  generous support from other Rotary Clubs, our club provided the necessary funding to rebuild Head Start's building located at Cottonwood Elementary School and replace its furnishings, supplies and playground equipment that were destroyed by flood waters.

  • Club members participated in other flood relief efforts by doing everything from serving coffee, working on post-flood clean-up crews, and organizing volunteers to obtaining donated toys, furniture and clothing.  Members Lea Allen and Paul Theiss serve on the Fernley Long Term Recovery Team.

  • We gave financial support to youth programs sponsored by ComPaSS by donating half of the proceeds of our 2007 golf tournament.  The balance of the proceeds raised funded other charitable organizations that serve our community, including Hospice and the Arts in the Schools program.

  • With a generous donation by one of our club members, we purchase and distribute dictionaries to every third grade student in the Fernley school system.

  • Proceeds from our book sale at the 2006 Fall Festival sponsored underprivileged children's participation in art workshops.

  • Individual members have contributed to many of the programs our weekly guest speakers have spearheaded.

  • Club members have led or participated in community clean up projects and recycling projects

  • The club has supported its members' projects to raise money for everything from martial arts scholarships for underprivileged kids to emergency cell phones for the elderly.

  • We raised money selling snow cones at the 2006 Junior Rodeo last summer and donated half of the proceeds to the Junior Rodeo.  The remaining money earned went to the club's general fund to finance other donations and fundraising projects.

We have done these things because we care about our community.  And we want to do more.

What's raised here stays here!

All monies raised by the Fernley Rotary club through its community fundraising efforts is dedicated to the betterment of Fernley and serving its residents' needs.

This is not to say that our club isn't active in Rotary International's Pennies for Polio drive and other projects:  it is.  However, only those funds that have been specifically  donated to those projects will leave our community.

Club members also support the international humanitarian efforts of the Paul Harris Foundation, but not with community-sponsored donations.    Personal donations by our club members is the means for our support.

How can you help?

When you hear about a Rotary Club of Fernley fundraising event, such as our golf tournament, sign up or become a sponsor, plan to attend, or donate an auction item.  It's your community too.

Does your organization need our help?

The Rotary Club of Fernley's FERNLEY ROTARY FOUNDATION is a 501C(3) non-profit organization that welcomes applications for assistance from qualifying recipients and other non-profit, community-minded organizations, whether for the benefit of children, teens, the elderly, the underprivileged, the underserved, or the environment.  Please contact our club's president, Duane Jenner, for more information.
